The Islington Health & Fitness Club is a premium facility which is located in the basement of an apartment block with four floors of tenants above it. The operation of the facility is dependent on conditioned air in the gym and swimming pool.
The chilled water plant at The Islington Health & Fitness Club had been non operational for a number of years when Mistral were requested to investigate and to find the equipment in poor condition.
The chiller plant is located on top of a private residence which was not owned by the club therefore it was imperative that all work was communicated to the local residents. Mistral carried out mail drops in the area and co-ordinated with the residents.
Mistral managed the replacement of the existing Chiller with a new Scroll Compressor unit to reduce noise.
As part of the works all pumps, strainers, valves and insulation were replaced and all ductwork was cleaned internally.

The Wimbledon Leisure Centre is located under an apartment complex, featuring a large gymnasium, a number of specialist dance & fitness studios and a swimming pool.
Mistral were contacted and requested to investigate a noise complaint from a tenant who was highlighting machinery and music noise. We surveyed the site met with the tenant and identified the issues.
Under the apartment was a very large fitness and dance studio which was used from very early in the morning to late at night. The noise of the music, impact of the people on the wooden dance floor and also the Air conditioning was causing the noise breakout.

- Our acoustic specialist designed a “box within a box” studio, where the internal areas coming into contact with and noise are fully isolated from the building structure.
- Removal of all of the fabric including dance floor, ceilings, lighting, doors and associated frames.
- Installed triple laminate walls with anti vibration hangers.
- Installed an independent triple laminate acoustic ceiling supported from anti vibration hangers.
- Installed a second acoustic ceiling complete with acoustically sealed lighting fixtures and speaker systems.
- Sourced and Installed custom made Beech acoustic doors and frames.
- Installed a triple laminate acoustic floor on anti vibration mounts.
- Installed a new Beech Junkers dance floor complete with all perimeter trims in Beech.
- Installed anti vibration mountings on all mechanical equipment above the ceiling and sealed all penetrations with acoustic material.
The design achieved a zero breakout of noise despite the music being played at over 90Db and became the benchmark for acoustic designs for the client.
